What’s a Grand Captain on the Mississippi Highway Patrol you ask? Well, that would be a proud new GRANDDADDY who just so happens to be a captain down in Troop M! On behalf of the Mississippi State Troopers Association’s Board of Directors, we’d like to welcome and say congratulations to baby Grayson Joseph Rogers who was born on December 11, 2009 at 10:57 a.m. He was 5 lbs, 15 ozs, and was 19 1/2 inches. Kyle and Lindsey Rogers are the proud parents. But remember, this is the first born grandchild to none other than Granddaddy Captain Chris Williams, and his wife, Jeanne. We welcome their first grandchild into the Mississippi Highway Patrol family.
Trooper Josh Leggett (MS) and his wife, Neisha Leggett, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter. Her name is Joy Nicole Leggett, and she was born on December 9 at 11:16 a.m. She weighed in at 7 lb 14 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. Baby Joy Nicole is also welcomed home by her big brother, little Jax Wayne Leggett who is three years old. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi State Troopers Association and all of the trooper family, we welcome the Leggett’s new bundle of Joy!
Highway Patrol Dressed and Successful! Mississippi Highway Patrol has been awarded first place for the “Best Dressed Public Safety” award for 2008-09. The announcement was made today by Colonel Mike Berthay, of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The North-American Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors (NAUMD) selected the Mississippi Highway Patrol for this prestigious award from among the largest number of competitors to date, according to the uniform trade association. This competition involved agencies at the local, state, and federal levels from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Mississippi Highway Patrol shares first place honors with their sister agency, the Washington State Patrol. “We are honored to receive this prestigious recognition,” said Colonel Berthay. “We are proud of our attention to detail, the uniform mirrors the same diligent attention our men and women bring to their jobs.” Read More . . .
Over the July 4th weekend, MSTA Board Member and Trooper Steve Crawford was injured in a grilling accident at his home. Apparently, he lit the gas grill and came back to discover that the fire was not burning. Not realizing that the gas was still turned on, he tried to relight the gas grill when it exploded. The resulting explosion blew the lid off the grill and caused 2nd degree burns over his chest and arms. Steve was home for only a few days to recover after receiving medical attention for his burns.
