Our Princess - Littly Ryan DearmanOur very own little princess, Miss Ryan Dearman has recently performed in the Miss Mississippi Pageant. She is the daughter of Trooper Wayne Dearman and Sasha, his wife. She gave a stunning dance performance during the statewide pageant. We are very proud of Miss Ryan, and she looks stunning in her tiara. When she’s older and is a contestant in the Miss Mississippi Pageant, we’ll all show up and pull for her to be crowned OUR Miss Mississippi. On behalf of the MSTA Board and the rest of the trooper family, congratulations to Ryan for a stellar performance and such a beautiful showing at the pageant. When Trooper Dearman was told that little Ryan would be breaking some hearts as she gets older, he remarked, “No, Daddy will be breaking some arms! He said she can’t date until she’s 29 and until he’s done a thorough background check on anyone who shows up at their house to take her out.” Congrats to Ryan! You’re our princess!

Troopers Carr & HarringtonThey’ve been dubbed Shooter One and Shooter Two. We’re not sure how these nicknames came to be. Are these two troopers (Carr and Harrington) on the S.W.A.T. team? Not! Are they on the pistol team? Not! Their uniforms tell us that they are on the Honor Guard. Hmmm, do they carry the rifles on the Honor Guard? Not sure about that one. So, one must wonder where the nicknames of Shooter One and Shooter Two come from… If you think you know the answer, share it with those who need to know (and yes, I’m on a need to know basis). Also, they were part of a larger team (Miley, Goodin, Carr, Harrington, J. Johnson, Blackmon, Seale, and R. Daniels) that went to Washington D.C. recently to compete in our first national Honor Guard competition while also paying tribute to Mississippi’s fallen law enforcement officers! On behalf of all troopers, thanks to the Honor Guard for representing your fellow troopers, fellow law enforcement officers, and for making your state very proud of your performance.

Josh PogueJoshua Maddox Pogue is shown here with his big sister, Haley. The newest little Pogue was a great Christmas addition and born on December 26 at 10:39 a.m. He weighs in at 6 lbs and 12 ozs and is 20 1/4 inches long. Mom and baby Josh are doing well. Dad, Trooper Jeremy Pogue, is still trying to convince his wife that the baby can ride with him on his MHP motorcycle. Hey Jeremy, we think that he can wait until he’s at least a year old! On behalf of the Mississippi State Troopers Association board, we welcome the newest Pogue “MHP Brat” to the rest of the highway patrol family. Loving the matching shirts! Congratulations!

The Pumpkin Carving ApprenticeAs we try to keep improving trooper salaries, sometimes you have to take second jobs. Sometimes, those turn out to be “seasonal” second jobs. Take Trooper Reed Harrington, the tough SWAT team member, as an example. He’s learning the fine-art of pumpkin carving from his young daughter during the Halloween season. Here, she’s showing her daddy how to properly scoop out the inside before you do the intricate, detailed carving. It’s rumored that she said, “Hey daddy, it’s much more fun if you just use your hands to scoop out the gooey insides, don’t ever use the bowl, and clean up the mess tomorrow.” You probably would never guess that he’s still just an apprentice at this job, but we’ve uncovered the truth. You see, after Reed’s wife, Yancy, took this picture, she had to step in to complete the task as the real pumpkin carver. Isn’t that right, Yancy? And in lieu of the traditional candle inside the perfectly carved pumpkin, Reed wanted to “light it up” with some C-4 so that all the neighbors hear it; I mean see it. Guess that SWAT training never really leaves you… What do you suppose is next for Reed? That we learn he can carve a turkey or trim a Christmas tree perhaps? Hey Reed, no offense, but we think you should definitely keep your day job!
