Highway Patrol Dressed and Successful! Mississippi Highway Patrol has been awarded first place for the “Best Dressed Public Safety” award for 2008-09. The announcement was made today by Colonel Mike Berthay, of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The North-American Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors (NAUMD) selected the Mississippi Highway Patrol for this prestigious award from among the largest number of competitors to date, according to the uniform trade association. This competition involved agencies at the local, state, and federal levels from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Mississippi Highway Patrol shares first place honors with their sister agency, the Washington State Patrol. “We are honored to receive this prestigious recognition,” said Colonel Berthay. “We are proud of our attention to detail, the uniform mirrors the same diligent attention our men and women bring to their jobs.” The award was presented at a ceremony during the NAUMD conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, this past Saturday, April 25. Colonel Berthay and Troopers Charles Haynes (C10) and Luke Harrington (M21) accepted the award on behalf of the entire sworn division of the Mississippi Highway Patrol and proudly wore the Class A, Class B, and Honor Guard uniforms. A tremendous amount of work went into this effort to get the right image to win this title. A very special thank you goes out to all troopers who participated in the two photo sessions at the capitol earlier this year. You clearly represented us well,” said Berthay. He went on to say, “The men and women of the Highway Patrol, who earned the right to wear their uniforms through the trials of trooper school, know that looking professional on the job is key to earning the respect of citizens.” On behalf of all sworn members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, a very special thanks and congratulations to the editor of the Mississippi Trooper magazine, Donna Echols, for donating her time and equipment, organizing the photo shoots, screening and proofing photographs and electronically submitting those with our application to enter us in this competition. She donated her time and photographic talent to do the work on this project to make sure that we showcased in a winning image. Berthay continued, “Thanks to all Mississippi Troopers who wear the blue and gray uniform that represents our state and provide protection and public safety to our citizens. You each can take pride in knowing that you are not only the best at what you do, you are also the best dressed.”
